Carbohydrate is your fastest, cleanest fuel — for training, for thinking, for getting through an afternoon without wanting to nap. Cutting them to nothing usually buys a quick drop on the scale, followed by worse workouts, worse sleep, and cravings that eventually win.
What actually matters is which carbs, how much, and when. Whole sources — potatoes, rice, oats, fruit, beans, whole grains — come with fibre and micronutrients, digest more slowly, and keep you full. Refined sources spike and drop, which is why a pastry at 10am has you hunting for something at 11.
Pair carbs with protein or fat and the same food behaves differently: fruit with yogurt, toast with eggs, rice with chicken and olive oil. That pairing is what keeps blood sugar and appetite steady.
Put most of your carbs around the parts of the day you move. If you train in the afternoon, that's where the bigger portion belongs.
