The 5-Slot Eating Day
Why smaller, regular meals help appetite, energy, and blood sugar — and how to adjust when a meal is missed.
Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. Five eating slots. Not because five is magical, but because it gives you enough chances to hit protein and steady blood sugar without needing every meal to be perfect.
Why slots work
When you only eat twice, each meal carries too much pressure. One bad meal blows the whole day. With five slots, you can miss one, adjust the others, and still land close to your targets. It also prevents the all-day grazing that makes people feel like they never ate and never stopped eating.
What goes in each slot
- Breakfast: protein + a real carb + some color
- Morning snack: protein anchor + one whole food
- Lunch: half plate produce, palm and a half of protein, cupped hand of carbs
- Afternoon snack: protein first, then add carbs only if you need them
- Dinner: protein, vegetables, carbs, and fat — enough to feel satisfied
When you miss a slot
Don't try to make it up by overeating later. Mark the slot as skipped and let the rest of the day re-size. The Shift Fuel Pro day planner does this automatically so the meals still ahead hit your totals.
